Tax Officer (Batam)

Position

The Tax Officer will be part of the Indonesian Finance team.

Location

Based in our office in Nongsa Digital Park, Batam, Indonesia.

 Overview

Reporting to the Finance Manager of Indonesia, the Tax Officer will be responsible for BWD’s overall compliance with Indonesian tax regulations and will provide support on all tax matters across the local businesses.

The role covers a wide range of responsibilities, including Withholding Tax (WHT) compliance, Coretax administration, corporate income tax filing, and application of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Withholding Tax (WHT) Compliance
    • For both our invoicing (A/R) and for the invoices we receive (A/P)
    • Prepare and file monthly WHT returns in line with Indonesian tax regulations.
    • Ensure correct application of WHT rates.
    • Maintain accurate documentation for all WHT transactions.
  • Coretax Administration
    • Manage tax reporting and filing through DJP Coretax system.
    • Ensure timely submission of electronic filings and payments.
    • Monitor updates from the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) and implement changes into Coretax practices.
  • Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Compliance
    • Understand Batam SEZ tax rules (VAT exemption, import duties, and income tax incentives) and their impact on our businesses.
    • Advise management on SEZ tax implications for transactions, contracts, and compliance.
    • Liaise with local tax authorities and SEZ regulators (incl. BP Batam) as required.
  • Corporate Income Tax (PPh Badan)
    • Prepare Annual Corporate Income Tax Return (SPT Tahunan Badan).
    • Support quarterly tax provisions, calculations, and reconciliations.
    • Coordinate with external auditors and consultants during audits or reviews.
  • Advisory & Support
    • Provide technical tax guidance to business units on transactions and contracts.
    • Keep up-to-date with Indonesian tax regulations, as well as the specific local rules and regulations (FTZ rules for Batam and SEZ rules in NDP).
    • Whenever necessary, seek external advice from our partners to confirm our understanding or to keep our understanding of the rules up to date

Qualifications & Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Tax.
  • Tax Consultant Licence is required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in Indonesian tax, preferably with exposure to SEZ/FTZ environments. Preferably 10 years experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Withholding Tax.
  • Proficient in Coretax (DJP system) and electronic tax filing.
  • Experience preparing and filing corporate income tax returns (SPT Badan).
  • Excellent understanding of Indonesian tax law and relevant Ministry of Finance regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and liaise with tax authorities.
  • Fluency in English would be a plus, but not mandatory
