Lead MEPF Design and Project Manager (Batam)

Position 

The Lead MEPF Design and Project Manager will be part of the Data Centre team and reports to Data Centre Program Director 

Location 

Based in one of our offices in Singapore, in Indonesia (Jakarta, Batam) or in Australia (Sydney). Geographical mobility (project based) required.

Overview  

To lead and manage all mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire-protection (MEPF) engineering aspects through the design development, procurement, and construction phases of the data center project.The Lead MEPF Engineer ensures that all systems are engineered, procured, installed, and tested to meet project performance, compliance, and reliability objectives. 

Key Responsibilities

Design Management and Supervision

  • Lead and quality control multidisciplinary MEPF design coordination between consultants, contractors, and vendors. 
  • Review design deliverables (concept, schematic, detailed, IFC) for compliance with performance, capacity, redundancy, and constructability requirements. 
  • Ensure alignment with TIA-942, ASHRAE, Hyperscale requirements, NFPA, IEC, and local authority standards. 
  • Supervise and advise design interfaces between civil/structural, architectural, ICT, and building services packages. 
  • Validate electrical and mechanical load and other calculations considering actual and future growth and various scenarios of operation. 
  • Verify design compliance with sustainability and energy-efficiency goals. 
  • Participate in innovation investigations and project preparations, site due diligences as needed.

Technical Assurance & Standards

  • Develop and enforce project MEPF technical specifications, equipment standards, and design guidelines. 
  • Participate on an as needed basis on FAT, type-testing, and certification reviews. 
  • Keep owner’s requirement document updated and participate in creating reusable design documentations and templates. 
  • Participate in data centre tenant RFP / RFI preparations and compliance checks. 
  • Participate in operations audits, improvement projects and root cause analysis and mitigation/prevention activities. 

Procurement & Vendor Coordination

  • Support preparation of RFPs, technical bid evaluations, and recommendation reports. 
  • Coordinate with nominated suppliers and OEMs for switchboards, generators, UPS, chillers, fire systems, etc. 
  • Verify supplier compliance with commercial and technical terms. 
  • Assist the project team in value-engineering reviews, design-build clarifications, and contract scope alignment. 

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Evaluate contractor and vendor technical submittals, shop drawings, and material samples. 
  • Support contractors to clarify expectations, requirements by example and advice. 
  • Provide engineering oversight during construction to ensure adherence to approved IFC drawings and specifications. 
  • Conduct site inspections, review NCRs, and assist in resolution of design conflicts. 
  • Participate in installation quality checks, pre-commissioning, and integrated systems testing (IST). 
  • Coordinate punch-list close-outs and handover documentation with the commissioning team. 

Interface Management & Reporting

  • Liaise with consultants, PMC, QS, and contractors to ensure consistent MEPF progress and technical resolution. 
  • Track design and procurement deliverables against master schedule and report risks proactively. 
  • Support project documentation control (Procore/BIM/IFC review cycles). 
  • Present engineering status, issues, and risk assessments to management and stakeholders. 

Qualifications & Experiences 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum 8+ years of data centre MEPF consultancy experience in consultant and/or DC operator/developer side 
  • Comprehensive, in-depth hands on technical knowledge in data centre electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire, ELV, BMS, SEC and ICT components 
  • Demonstrated strong coordination and review skills 
  • Excellent communication skills and consultant, contractor management skills 
  • Ability to work independently to coordinate with all stakeholders 
  • Familiarity with commissioning standards, ASHRAE, Uptime, BICSI, TIA-942 
  • Certifications and trainings are a plus 
  • Ability to travel and/or stay on project site for longer periods of time primarily but not limited to South East Asia.
