  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical specifications, equipment schedules and design documentation.
  • Design and optimise mission-critical cooling systems, including:
    • Chilled water plants.
    • Air-cooled and water-cooled systems.
    • CRAH/CRAC systems.
    • In-row and overhead cooling solutions.
    • Cooling towers.
    • Pumping systems.
    • Mechanical piping networks.
    • Ventilation and pressurisation systems.
  • Perform cooling load calculations, hydraulic analyses and equipment sizing.
  • Evaluate innovative cooling technologies, including liquid cooling solutions for high-density AI and HPC deployments.
  • Develop standardised design guidelines and engineering specifications across the data centre portfolio.

Design Review & Technical Governance

  • Review consultant and contractor designs to ensure compliance with company standards, project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOP, constructability reviews, value engineering and technical risk assessments.
  • Ensure mechanical designs support maintainability, operational resilience, energy efficiency and future scalability.
  • Manage technical deviations and engineering change requests.

Project Delivery

  • Support project teams throughout design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Review technical submissions, vendor proposals, equipment selections and shop drawings.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and commissioning activities.
  • Resolve complex engineering issues during project execution.

Operations & Asset Lifecycle Support

  • Provide engineering support for operating data centres.
  • Evaluate plant performance and recommend improvements to reliability, capacity and energy efficiency.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) of mechanical failures and develop corrective actions.
  • Plan infrastructure upgrades, equipment replacement and capacity expansion while maintaining operational continuity.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to optimise preventive maintenance strategies and improve asset reliability.

Sustainability & Innovation

  • Support initiatives to improve Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE), and overall facility sustainability.
  • Evaluate emerging cooling technologies, energy-efficient equipment and digital engineering solutions.
  • Promote standardisation, automation and continuous improvement across the mechanical engineering function.

Qualifications & experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design of mission-critical facilities, with significant exposure to hyperscale or enterprise data centres.
  • Experience working for a data centre owner/operator, engineering consultancy or EPC contractor delivering large-scale mission-critical projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration is preferred.

Key competencies

  • Strong knowledge of mission-critical HVAC systems and precision cooling technologies.
  • Experience in chilled water system design, hydraulic balancing and pumping system optimisation.
