Cyber Security Engineer (New Zealand)

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Cybersecurity Engineer to join our IT Systems team. This role is designed to support the company’s growing infrastructure, ISO 27001 certification efforts, and cybersecurity operations across multiple regions. You will play a critical role in both implementing and maintaining technical security controls, as well as supporting strategic initiatives through analysis, monitoring, and compliance activities.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a hybrid environment, splitting their time between hands-on security implementation and analytical/security operations tasks, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our systems and data.

The role will also participate in an on-call rotation, providing after-hours support as part of a small-rostered team.

Key Responsibilities

Implementation & Hands-On Security (50%)

  • Configure, harden, and maintain network devices, firewalls, and servers in alignment with best practices.
  • Deploy and manage cybersecurity tools across systems (e.g., endpoint protection, vulnerability scanners, SIEM, etc.).
  • Apply patches and manage software/firmware updates to reduce exposure to vulnerabilities.
  • Assist in secure deployment of infrastructure in new and existing sites
  • Support project teams with security requirements and risk assessments.

Monitoring, Analysis & Governance (50%)

  • Monitor security logs, correlate events, and respond to anomalies or incidents.
  • Conduct investigations of alerts or suspected security breaches.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external penetration testing exercises.
  • Collaborate with IT and compliance teams to implement ISO 27001 controls.
  • Work with GRC platforms to track, audit, and report on compliance status.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for certifications, audits, and assessments.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in a cybersecurity or security-focused infrastructure role.
  • Solid understanding of networking, system hardening, and common attack vectors.
  • Experience with enterprise security tools (SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, vulnerability management).
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001, NIST, or other cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with firewalls, VPNs, and secure cloud or on-prem environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in regulated or certified environments (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2).
  • Familiarity with scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation.
  • Previous work in multi-site or global organizations.
  • Exposure to GRC platforms and cybersecurity governance tools.
