Network Operations Centre (NOC) Technician (Australia)

Position :           NOC Technician – Rotating shift work.

Location :           Sydney, Australia

BW Digital develops, funds, and operates digital infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region. We provide customers with future-proof capacity and hosting solutions based on the highest level of performance, scalability and sustainability.
Our 15,000 km submarine cable – Hawaiki – connects Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Hawaii and continental United States since July 2018.
Our planned projects include Hawaiki Nui, a new trans-Pacific submarine cable connecting South-East Asia, Oceania and North America and Datagrid, the first carbon-neutral hyperscale colocation data centre in Australasia.

Purpose of role:

You will monitor and maintain telecommunication networks, troubleshoot issues, coordinate repairs, and proactively interact with customers to ensure their satisfaction. They will also support Engineering / Provisioning / Service Delivery projects and supervise maintenance activities.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Monitor networks and services and respond to outages or incidents in a 24/7 operation to guarantee high availability.
  • With your team, provide a 24/7 technical hotline service to customers, internal employees, 3rd Parties and subcontractors;
  • Provide 1st and 2nd level technical support for any possible fault at remote sites (including IT systems, network equipment, transmission equipment, PFE, security systems, AC/DC Plant, Air Conditioning, Chilling Units, UPS Systems, Generators, etc);
  • Progress Provisioning / Service Delivery tasks under the direction of Service Delivery Manager / NOC Team Leader;
  • Assist and remotely interface with on-site Cable Landing Station managers and interact with d subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, 3rd Parties;

Competencies or expertise, even partially:

  • ICT/Engineering/Electronics/Telecommunications related qualification or experience
  • Professional certifications such as CCNA, IPEP, CTNS, ITIL, …
  • Networking and Telecommunications systems experience
  • Server hardware experience or knowledge
  • Experience of facilities management including AC/DC Plant, Air Conditioning, Environmental Control, Chillers, UPS Systems, Generators, PFE, security systems (CCTV, Access Control)
  • Experience of optical fibre cabling protocols and deployment
  • Practical hands-on ability and experience within a telco terminal station
  • Previous customer service / helpdesk experience and use of a ticketing system
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and respond to network / server alarms, events or incidents
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Good communication, team player and ready to work under pressure without direct supervision

Hours of work: Nominal 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday working on rotating shifts including nights
